Capt. Otto and Chef CarenCaren and Otto, both from sunny Cape Town, South Africa, have followed a rather adventurous career to eventually settle here in the beautiful Caribbean. Otto started his sailing career on a traditional Gaff- rigged Schooner (pirate ship) as crew, loved the whole experience and decided to become a sailor. Otto would be the first to tell you that there are no better training grounds for sailing than the infamous east and west coasts of Africa, and the Cape of Storms. But, for the ever adventurous Otto, the sailing scope in Africa became too small and he decided to try some Trans Atlantic deliveries to the United States and Caribbean, where he very quickly racked up over 100,000 nautical miles having fun and doing what he loves. Caren decided to give up her corporate job as a Human Resources manager and joined him in the adventure. Once in the Caribbean they fell in love with the Islands and decided to try their hand at chartering. It did not take them long to realize that this would be the opportunity of a life time to satisfy their love of sailing and adventure. Based out of Antigua, they have chartered in the BVI, St. Maartin and further down-island. Since then, they have just completed 6 months of chartering in mystical Turkey, but have now returned to the warmer and more beautiful waters of the Caribbean aboard Catnap, and are looking forward to sharing their future adventures with you here in the Virgin Islands. In the following years, while working as a diesel engine designer, he found himself spending all of his money on travel. So, he switched gears and worked in travel and tourism for the next decade. Capt.John and Chef MeganCaptain John has been running successful charters in the Caribbean for over fifteen years. He moved to St. Thomas three years ago when he´s not setting up the perfect anchorage, John loves to break out the poker chips for a couple rounds of Texas Hold ´Em, or his favorite, two-card Guts (outlawed in 38 states). John is also a big fan of afternoon BBQ´s, and will occasionally take over the galley and serve up his famou BBQ shrifamoust off the grill. Originally from York, PA, John spent five years racing custom-built cars. John´s the active type and he´ll be more than happy to show you how to kayak, teach you how to sail, take you on a hike over the hills of Norman Island, or jump in and snorkel his favorite spots with you. Professional, friendly and always up for an adventure, John is the perfect captain to guide you through your sailing vacation. Megan has been nursing a love affair with water ever since she was small enough to fit in a baby pool. She was lured to St. Thomas three years ago by the promise of warm water year-round and has been working on charter boats ever since. An already avid surfer, Megan has developed a passion for seeking out Caribbean marine life, especially her favorites; Hawksbill turtles and Scrawled Filefish. As a PADI-certified Divemaster, Megan looks forward to spending plenty of time searching under shelves for the underwater sighting that will make your vacation. She´s a self-professed food-lover, who revels in new tastes and incorporating them into her ever-changing repertory. It was her father who taught her the art of home-cooked gourmet, but she owes her mother for the espresso brownies. She can make you an incredible steak au poivre, an equally tasty eggplant parmegana, and wow you with her specialty desserts. Megan is a graduate of the prestigious University of Pennsylvania where she majored in english and music. If the mood strikes her, she may pull out her guitar for an impromptu Jimmy Buffet sing-a-long. Megan has been described as "personality plus" and her goal is to make sure her guests have the best vacation experience of their lives. John and Megan met three years ago while running an all-inclusive luxury day charter yacht out of St. Thomas, USVI. They have a 100% Customer Satisfaction Rating! Rates and availability. Captain Ian is an MCA 200 ton Offshore Yacht Master. He also holds Marine Safety (STCW ´95), Chef Jody and Captain IanMarine Advance First Aid and Advanced Open Water PADI dive certificates. He is currently working towards his PADI dive master qualification. He has been sailing and cruising for 16 years and enjoys all water sports. Growing up on the water in Ontario, Canada, he summered and sailed amongst Georgian Bay´s 30,000 islands where he developed his strong sense for navigation and pilotage. After obtaining an Earth Science degree from Canada´s sailing capital, Halifax Nova Scotia, Ian returned to the Great Lakes to work as a Service Technician and to further explore Canada´s best cruising grounds. After 5 years of work he took his savings and fixed up his beloved sailboat and set sail on an 18 month single-handed voyage from Canada´s cold to the balminess and camaraderie of the cruising community along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard and then east to the Bahamas where he immediately fell for the turquoise water, diving, game and spear fishing. Chef Jody has studied advanced cuisine at the George Brown Culinary Institute in Toronto, Canada. She holds marine certificates in Safety (STCW ´95) and Advanced First Aid. In university she studied Psychology, Sociology and Human Resources. In 2001, restless from study, she filled her backpack and traveled the U.K. and Europe where she embraced the transient lifestyle, both its freedom and its sense of community. She also savored the Mediterranean cuisine and wine and after a long stay flew home with two new passions: fine food and travel. Back in Canada she worked as a Human Resources Professional in the Automotive sector. During these six years Jody´s culinary skills were honed as she used cooking as her means of unwinding every night. In 2005 Ian and Jody purchased another boat with a larger galley which they lived on as they worked their land-bound lives. Always sailing, cooking and entertaining and dreaming of a career that married both their passions. Their personalities already a successful union – Jody´s boundless energy and spirit and Ian´s adaptability, patience and practicality – a career as a crew only made sense. Now, aboard Encore, in the sun and warmth and consistent trade winds of the Beautiful British Virgin Islands let Ian and Jody share their passions with you. Rates and availability.
